A life-long artist - James specializes in alla prima oil painting. His vision with Beat A Brush is to keep the legacy of Bob Ross alive for the wonderful citizens of the greater Charlotte metro area.

Bob’s sole intent was to teach others, with little or no experience, how to create their own masterpieces using a quick and easy-to-learn oil painting technique. Anyone can experience the joy of seeing their own little world come into being while expressing themselves through art. Leave the worries of the world far behind as you find the comfort and happiness that Bob’s technique provides.

James is a nationally Certified Ross Instructor (CRI) providing demonstrations and instruction in the wet-on-wet oil painting method. Instruction options include:

• Make-n-Take fun class (3-hours duration)

• Ross Technique development classes (multiple 3-hour sessions to dive deeper into the technique)

• Custom, personalized classes for small groups (a great team-building activity!)

Classes are all inclusive (except for a frame) so that aspiring artists need only bring a willingness to enjoy playing with paint (just wear old clothes…).

Due to the logistics (and general messiness) of oil paint - all instruction is through the CHARLOTTE ART LEAGUE. The league’s facility is very well-suited to conducting Ross technique classes.
